Countless plastic and rubber products "leak" gas at high rates as they can be poor vapour barriers, even when they are good barriers to liquids.  This makes a big difference to the way they work and what they can be safely used for – not just as containers, packaging or materials, but also in the way they handle, print and perform in general.

Thanks to Versaperm's latest equipment developments, measuring this performance-critical "permeability" has become easy, not just with respect to water vapour, but also for CO2, hydrocarbons, oxygen, nitrogen, and most other gases or vapours.  Traditional measurements take days, weeks or even months, but for some materials and gases accurate measurements can now be produced in as little as 30 minutes.

Understanding these properties of plastics, compounds, films and laminates can reduce several widespread problems - from drugs that lose potency to photocopiers that jam and food that goes stale.  It also allows companies to design packaging that actively extends the shelf life of degradable products.

Versaperm's permeability meter is not only one of the most technically advanced in the world, but is fast and easy to use, with accuracies typically in the parts per million range, (parts per billion with some gases).  The system is ideal for use on most plastics or rubber materials, containers, films coatings and components.  It is suitable for Quality Control, lab and development work.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a permeability laboratory service for companies that need to test samples on an irregular basis.
